Hey guys, Ive just brought a Defender 90 1990. It has come with an isolation switch just below passenger seat. Even with the 'switch' in the off and on position it still lets me start the engine. Ive traced all the cables back and there are no breaks and no none connections.. any other ideas?

As above, I'd guess it was an isolator for something else, that perhaps isn't there anymore - maybe winch?

Did the prior owner give any indication? To complete isolate the vehicle would mean a connection in the positive line from the battery. You could confirm this by checking if the main power lead goes from here to the isolator, or straight off to the starter.

it does indeed have a winch which may be the reason for it! i didnt even think of that, thanks for the replies. Ill have a mooch about tomorrow after work and see if thats what its for. Ill keep you updated. thanks
