Hell will freeze over before i will let some dickhead with an NVQ work on my car.

Completely agree, Have always done my own work since i bought my first car.
At Christmas my son asked me to replace the timing belt kit on his 206gti, i said no chance, havent got the time but offered to pay half of what the local indie charged him.
2 days later boom! belt slipped 16 valves bent, back to indie rebuilt head, back together, start it up no oil pressure, they'd only left the oil pressure control valve out, that goes in the oil gallery from under the head BEFORE it gets bolted on ?!!?!!!? head off again. 6 days it took them in total to do a job i should have done myself in 3 hours.

yep they can bugger of I do my own motors, at least you know what has been done, agree with wammers about the NVQ numptys would you ever trust the young lad at kwiksh#t to do your brakes.

You know i was amazed when i went to check progress on my sons car, they have what i used to call a tool trolley with a laptop on it right next to them, not running Diag, No reading instructions how to do the job!

Morning Brian, I cannot agree more with you and Tony but if you miss something you will be held to ransom if the reg's change in this country. Luckily the garage I used was a proper one, one mechanic was actually making a small part that had failed rather than just replacing the whole assembly.:)

Bloody ridiculous situation if the regs do change. I can understand to a certain degree not allowing Joe public to change vital bits. But if you are a time served mechanic you should be able to do your own repairs. It's bloody stupid if you can't.
