Hi all,

I bought my Landrover Freelander td4 04 plate last october and noticed that sometimes when using the remopte locking fob to unlock her that sometimes she beeps for a while and a red light flashes when I get in, sometimes it doesn't happen but I haven't been able to figure this out as to what it was. I just reckoned it meant the car had taken a bump from a passer by maybe. But now I am wondering is it something to do with the immobiliser?

The reason for my change of heart is I have never had any starting problems with her at all and her battery seems like it has a lot of life in it still. However upon getting in her this evening, I am not sure she beeped at me (I really can't remember) but when turning her key, she was dead, just a slight clicking noise, after 4 attempts she came to life. (It definitely wasn't the battery) I drove her to where I was going, turned er engine off then back on and again she was dead, so I tried again and she fired into life, I tried again, 3 times in a row and she powered into life each time first time. I then left her alone for about an hour and when I got back in to come home, the same happened she was dead then on second attempt powered into life. I have just been out to try her again and same thing happned, doesn't start ten starts.

Has anyone any ideas if this is my starter motor or could it be immobiliser problems? I have not experienced any problems like this in her before and looking in my warranty book that I took out, it states starter motor is covered by warranty. So yes, I am thinking I will take her back to the garage where I bought her but I am worried that they will come up with an excuse saying it isn't covered.

I am more than happy for someone in here to take a look and be paid for the job as to be honest with you, you guys seem a lot more experienced than most garages and I certainly trust you more (after reading thru the threads)

I am going away in 3 weeks so I definately need this fixing by then as I don't fancy stopping at motorway services and then she doesn't start at all with 3 dogs in the car:croc:

All help greatly appreciated.

beeping is generally to indicate fob battery needs changing

Yep. Sounds like starter motor, probably needs the solenoid thingy

And Fanatic's right regarding the beeping.

Cheers

Beeping is just telling you to change the battery in the fob....mine does it occasionally. I really must get around to changing it.

The most likely cause of the starting problem is a bad connection at the starter motor.
Mine (a L series) has a bloody great fat wire attached to it.
Ignore that one and look for a much smaller wire attached (green If I remember)
I had the same "clicking" and not starting...give the wire a waggle and it started. I just removed and repaired the connection and problem solved.
