I have a 1985 CSW 90 which I am finding my way around. I started by cleaning the 200 TDI which was covered in grot and found this little silver box that is mounted on the fan couling. It has pipes that run to the heater and the radiator so I am assuming it is some kind of pre-heater but am not sure if it is a Kenlowe? It has an electric input which is on the front bumper.

Does anyone know what this is please?

Not seen one before in real life, but looks like it.

The connector on the front is for plugging it into the mains - beleive the idea is to either put on a timer or plug in 20 mins or so before you need to drive - that preheats the unit without the engine running, so that when you do start it you get warm air immediately onto that misted up windscreen!

OK - so I plug it in for 20 minutes, no need to have the engine running. Sounds like it might be a nifty thing for those cold mornings!

Thanks

Can certainly see the attraction from here in Scotland!

Personally I'd put it on a timer.

No idea how heavy it is on electric - have fun playing:)

It will be heavy on electric.

Its not so much for warm air, but for helping the engine to start easily and not having to work whilst its cold thus protecting it in the long run.

Thats probably been on there a few years as its the older square style, the newer ones are round tubular affairs.
They work well need to be on for approx 20/30 minutes and are basically a kettle with a water pump built in.
If you goole it you will find out how many kilowatts it is, i did work it out cost wise years ago and it was the same to run as an eberspacher diesel heater.
Basically the mutts nutts when its cold.
Depending how its plumbed in you may need to leave the cab heater control on max to allow the water to circulate.
