im looking at buying the disco in the pic below ,but seeing i know nothing about common faults etc and what to look for on a disco can you guys help?

cheers
griff

Its quite cheap.

Mileage doesnt look too high, but, English may not be their first language, so you can forgive some mistakes, but why dont people spell check? And pics with stuff on the seat/back! And one showing it towing and looking low.

And its RHD/UK plate, in Germany, why? And the reg doesnt appear on DVLA site, unless I cant read it right!

sorry forgot to say im in the forces over in germany ,and the seller is also forces, they give us dif reg over here for security reasons thats why it not on dvla

Aha!! Works then, except now DVLA is all online its a bit of a flag isnt it!!

I used to supply car parts to BFPO,s Worldwide, that was in the days of army reg plates, when we sent stuff by air mail the rates to BFPO,s matched the air mail rates to that country so location wasnt much of a secret, good old Post Office!

But to come back to the ad! For a 2003 it looks a very good price, just give it a good check over, lots of good advice here and buyers guides online.

Check rear chassis, and everywhere else for rust!
Look for oil/water leaks. From engine

Arh lappy dying hopefully back online later!

Just for the record, it's a disco 2, facelift.
The exact spec I couldn't say, but from the look of it, it is a fairly high spec.
The registration documents should show that, but I'm sure that somebody else could give you more of a pointer in that direction.

Plenty of information regarding what to look for on the forum.

Ok powered up again!

If its been used a lot for towing make sure your test drive includes some driving at over 100 KPH ideally on a flat road that then inclines, what you want to listen for is an increase in gearbox noise which could indicate the output shaft bearing on the transfer box is going, mine had worn and the droning noise was very obvious when going uphill.

Also see if the clutch/flywheel has been changed, thats about the right mileage for a change if its not been done already.

I was about to ask that question in a new thread, but I`ll hijack this one for a moment if I may- Is that an average clutch/dmf change mileage (sounds a bit high to me!)

Check the chassis rails very carefully, they are prone to swelling at the rear (around the fuel tank) and then splitting, tell tale is bumpy ridges along the sides of the rails.

Also make sure all of the warning lamps light up at self test - when you start it up... Unscrupulous people have been known to remove the lamps to mask faults to the ABS system and or SLS (rear air suspension if fitted) and ACE (hydraulic Active Cornering Enhancement).

You should be able to google some pics that show which lights should be on during self test.

You can tell if it has SLS because well you'll be able to see the airbags at the back instead of springs.

ACE can be spotted because there will be hydraulic rams connected to the anti roll bars plus a set of pipes terminating at an aluminium housing on the drivers side half way along the chassis.

just bought it ,in £s it cost me 1800, also comes with a roof cage and new disks (not seen the cage yet lol)

landmark? is that a model ? if so any good lol

as for front bumper its a after market one to fit a winch too or so im told but never had one fitted ,well not yet lol

hi again all

right i have a 2001 freelander td4 with 17inch wheels on it ,will the stud patern (pdc) be the same for the discovery as it is for the freelander???

and if so will it be ok putting 225/55/17 on a discovery?

cheers griff

im well excited to pick my new car up,hope it feels like a upgrade to the freelander like im hoping

I'm to presume that the "Full Land Rover package" is rust, random electrical issues and water leaks?

collected it now ,was a bit ****ed to be honest the passenger side front wing has been changed as some how it got ####ed !! he has replaced it with the same colour but needs fitting proply i think ,also the winch front bumper needs some kid of under cover as you can see the windscreen washer bottle from certain angles !!!

and he had wet dogs in the boot !! hell can you smell them ,and last but not least the front sunroof does not open ,not a big thing but wish he had told me

Sunroof isn't a big deal.
A free test is to unbolt the rear motor and connect it up to the front electrics. If it turns you need a new motor!
Assuming you've done the obvious stuff like testing switches and fuses?
