2001 P38 range rover.
Not on the road yet and rebuilding/renewing things, fetched it on a trailer, stood for 4 yrs no history.
The two front sensors I had to destroy removing them, fitted allmakes cheapy ones from Island 4x4, the two rears removed easily so hopefully they are good:rolleyes:
Anywhoo, is there a way to check them using a digital multimeter? And if so, how?
Fang u :D

Easiest test you can do is to measure the resistance of the sensors. The faulty one is most likely to be open circuit. They are only a coil so a break means they don't work.
;)

Check resistance for continuity, then set mmter to dc volts and spin the wheel by hand, you should get 1 to 2 volts ish depending on wheel speed.
So they will generate their own voltage? No need to have ign on and vehicle battery connected at all?

Yes thats right, we used to test the hgv trailer ones the same way, before diagnostic kit was available/common.

In the old days you would get a flash code saying sensor air gap/open circuit etc, then you spent an age trying to work out which bloody sensor was duff, now plug in laptop and bing tells you air/gap/runout/pulse ring fault etc etc.

My MOT man only fits genuine ABS sensors. He says he's fitted customer supplied cheap ones that last only a few weeks or not even the drive home so often that he ONLY fits genuine. On my Ibiza the difference between ebay and genuine was about six quid!
