Is my clutch toasted or is it something else?

Hello all!

Freelander petrol, 1.8, 2001, 181000 km.

Bought this car a couple of weeks ago - do not know when clutch was changed, if at all.

I have a strange situation:

A couple of days ago I noticed that my clutch is slipping lightly.
Yesterday it became worst, and now it revs up but no real power comes to the wheels - can not really accelerate. These is a burning rubber smell too.
I also tried parking, putting in 1st gear, letting go of the clutch without touching the gas - the car started to moving and driving - the engine did not turn off. The pedal itself seems to work normally, as always, and is actually pressing - but it is like this pressing is doing nothing.
From the above (and from reading) I believe that my clutch needs to be replaced, right? or is there another solution? Please share with me.

Now the strange part: while I am driving I manage to change all gears without a problem (except reverse, which always had a noise). I am talking 1-5 gears: no problem moving between them, and no noises.
So, is that normal? I thought if I will not have clutch, I will not be able to shift, or at least the shifting will be hard / noisy.

I want to know if it is really the clutch, and not the transmission, or something else.

Please let me know all that you think.

THANX!!!

Sound very much like clutch, the smell is very distinctive like you get with hot brakes,
It’s a straightforward job to do in comparison to the other Land Rover family,

By the way, can I assume a damaged clutch only? i mean: no transmission damage?
Second question: since I never tried it before, is there oil that I need to change here? If so, is it a special oil?
THANX!

Yes should be just a clutch unless you really cooked it then you may need to reface the flywheel,
Best to purchase a workshop manual and it will give you blow by blow how to take it apart,
And worthwhile for future work,
Likewise oil type and capacity will be in there, when you pop out the driveshafts you will loose the oil so obviously refill with new oil when the box is put back,
