is it possible to test an unfitted alternator?

Hello,

This is slightly off the Landy topic but I have adopted the problems of my 17 year old sons classic mini!

We changed the alternator because it was rough as a badgers arse and the bearings where shot and in general it had seen better days but it was working it just screamed constantly.

Brand new alternator is fitted and it isnt charging the battery. Weve checked various things but mechanical is my bag not electrical.

Its got me thinking although maybe unlikely the new alternator could be faulty. Is there any bench test that can be done to check it?

Why didnt you change the bearings in the alternator then? If the old was was charging it is prob the new alternator!
