Hi,

It's at this time of the year that I miss some of the features on previous cars, the best being remote opening of all electric windows (to release some of the oven heat BEFORE getting into the car).

Is it possible to mod the rear window function so that a long press on the remote unlock drops all windows (not just the tailgate)?

I have a 2002, TD4, 3 door, so I'm referring to the driver and passenger windows.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Yes. To do this you need to wire the power which goes to the tail gate window motor to a new relay coil. The new relays contacts need to be connected across the switches that control the 4x door windows. The problem you have is that power is removed from them when the ignition is off (after 20 seconds) so you'll need a new feed for power. I would recommend separate contacts for each window. Connect the new power feed to one contact and the wire going to the window motor for the other side of the contact. Do this on separate contacts for all 4 windows.

Or jump in, switch on ignition, put windows down as normal.

But then won't using the tailgate switch, operate all the other Windows when pressed?
Yes it would. The only other way to do it would be a secondary relay setup so you could either open the tailgate, or use the secondary relays to open all windows. This would be controlled by a different remote like a garage door opener. Easier to open windows with the switches. Thats what I do when I return to a hot car on a summers day.

If you connected to the rear window, you could power that
circuit from another relay. That relay would only give power
with the ignition off. The relay coil would energise when ignition
on and break the power to the front windows.

Just noticed that the key in the rear lock closes the tailgate window again, could we link into this rear door lock switch somehow, with the remote?
Yes. But I think the easier option is to open the windows with the existing switch. No mods to report to insurance and easier all round.

If my hippo is hot when I return to it I drive with the 4 windows down by 2 inches and open the tailgate window a bit. Soon cools down. I never open the tailgate window when driving fast as some have had the glass shatter. Not sure if this was bad luck, the glass flexing or issues with the heater element creating hot spots causing it to shatter due to stress.

Sorry guys, but guess I'm missing something here or simply not seeing it.
I've found that holding the unlock button down triggers the back window to open!

Press to unlock the drivers door, press again to unlock all the doors, but hold the unlock button down and the back window drops!

Only if by back window you actually mean tailgate window ;)

Yes the tailgate window will drop when you do this. It's so yer can put yer shopping in without needing to open the tailgate. Handy if yer got a body in there you don't want anyone to see. ;)
