is there anyone out there that has rebuilt his ird box im looking for the bearing nos hope someone can help thanks

I was planning to in the near future,, IRD drives well, the odd clonk due to a bit of slack in the bearings plus a slight whine.

I reckon my IRD will go on for many more miles, but curious to the IRD rebuild.

On Landrovernet.com someone was saying the rebuild can not be done without specialist tools.????

Considering there is no technical brochure or guidance from Haynes........... just how difficult can it be?



I have gear and bearing pullers, but didnt think there was a need for hydraulic press. Wheel bearings yes! but internal bearings should slide home with a bit of persuasion.

Personally I think Ashcroft Transmission are taking the mickey with their price of a complete IRD.

I dont have a RAVE, just the Haynes. I was given the official LR CD's a few years back, but they are encrypted so that you cant use them with a normal PC

would it be a silly suggestion to ask why you dont download them from here fur free?

I prefer a hard copy manual, yes I know you can print off the sheets that you need, but nothing beats an oily thumb print on the workshop manual, bumper edition.

What do you do when you dont have access to the PC in the workshop? power cut etc

just one question ...why are yer working on yer car in a blackout???

I was thinking about doing the same thing with a 2nd hand ird.

"Our Freeda" has a clonk when starting and then once shes warmed up there's a clock when acc/decelerating from time to time.

so, has anyone done this themselves using 'ordinary' tools?
