Hey All

Well, finally done it - got myself a battered old '73 Landy to play with.

I'm pretty spanner handy, but rubbish with electrics. Oh dear.

Very sold chassis, solidish running gear, and plotergiest electrics - prepare for a million newbie questions like... "What does this do?" "How do you do this?" What the fook is this all about??!"

It has parabolics up[ front, heavy duty HCPU rears, comfy seats, massive roof rack, wonders all over the road, scary electrics, and a grin factor of 11 out of 10.

Pics below - look forward to raping you all of knowledge.

Thanks mate I am well chuffed. The Mrs less so. However towing stuff for a horese trailer helps - she's still not sold tho - feck her I love it

Hi mate ta for the welcome/

I have dimlights (I know.. usual!)

Decades of random wiring in the cab

Rear work/reversing light not connected to anything apart from the end coiled arount the rear view mirror

Cig lighter and random switch in the centre panel of the dash half wired to what looks like a live coming from behind the dials

4 roof lights attached to the front of the roof rack not wired in to anything just have an insulated red/blur wire fed in through a hole in the roof

Interior lights wired in to god knows what (am planning to replace these with led stick-on spots like the ones you can buy for cupboards

What looks like wiring for a CB or someting similar hanging fron a slide mounting plate attached to under the dash with a feed to an aerial mouthed on the back door - has multiple in-line fused red wires about it

A car stereo mounded under the dash (which gets royally whacked when going in to reverse) which doesn't seem to have any power to it and has no speakers attached but has a couple of fused live looking cables attached

I can go on but won't.

Think an expensive appointment with a local auto electrician is on the cards!

You did ask!

Wiring on the series is about as simple as you can get. Common problems include:-
corroded bullet connectors
corroded bulb holders
melted wires replaced with random colours (quite a lot of the circuits are unfused)
repatching on fuse box - all the ins and outs are on spade connectors
worn out switcgear - especially the dim/dip stalk
Most of this is relatively cheap to fix.

Get a copy of the wiring diagram (there are some really good coloured versions on line), a decent soldering iron (for remaking bullet connectors) a good crimp tool (for spades) and a cheap multimeter (Maplins). And then ask questions.

are yer switches in the middle of the dash on like a big toblerone triangle thing stood up if so strip the said pannel out and straighten the side faceing the clocks so it goes right along the dash cut it off leaveing a tab for rivvets or self tapping screws then make a plate to fit the space flush along the dash between the triangle thing and the clocks and cut out a hole for the new radio position plenty of space for yer radio switches and a couple of small battery n oil pressure gauges
thus saveing yer knuckles when getting into gear aswell takes a good afternoon but looks **** hot when done

don't forget the blue backlit rev counter as well, and paint the brake drums red (standard household gloss will do)
