Still struggling to find source an internal roll cage for my Series 3 Soft Top. Most suppliers to date only offer it for Defenders! Can anyone help, tried the major suppliers to date, but wanted to a cage that looks good with canvas off and acts as roll bar protection too. Not for any major off-roading, but safety for passengers in the back as need room for 2 bench seats.

Problem you will find is real competition cages take up space. Non comp cages are just for show might be worth building your own witrh a bender and scaffold bar IF you can weld.

You could adapt a Defender job (like the one in the pic) if you just want a light cage but personally I would go for a proper chassis mounted roll bar. Also bench seats in the back ain't all that safe either.

I'm of the opinion and I think I'm not alone that any cage should be a real one and should meet the msa specs for the effort involved it may aswell. I do understand that you have non need for a comp cage but in the event of an accident something unplanned it will be more than up to scratch.

If you can weld it shouldn't cost too much, I just got a CDS main hoop bent up on a mandrel bender for £80 the rest is straight tube and some flat plates

Thank you for all for your advice and help. Yes I think I might look to move away from the bench seats and tackle this differently. Found a local LR enthusiasts who has a pipe bender and happy to help me build a bespoke system which I will bolt to the chassis. Thanks everyone, certainly helped me come to the right conclusion.

I have found finally found one, great timing. Spoke to this fab chap at his company called HingeandBracket, new enterprise and he is a Landy enthusiast. He has just made these rear internal cages for Series 3 & Defenders and is now working up the same for both Series 2 & 3. Looks like a great product and he is being asked by Landy suppliers such as neneoverland, I have just purchased one so once fitted will post a piccie or two. Have a look at this link:

Thank you PercyV8, I'm also building a Series 3 88" (1972) and I was also looking for a roll-bar I could leave in situ when I had the had top on or using canvas/open air.
Regards, Meyrick.

The link states very clearly that they are not Roll Bars, just heavy duty hood sticks. I think I saw them at the LRO show, looked OK but you wouldn't want to trust your life on them.

I'd be taking to Whitbread or someone else that builds comp cages, if I'm going upside down I'd like to be able to walk away.

+1
Seen to many cages or alf jobs in track day cars that would cause more halm then good.

Hi All -

Just joined the forum and looking into a similar item. I too have a SWB 88" currently with a safari top. Dying to put a soft top / hood on it as I live in California and would be a great beach car. Safety though is a concern... while I do not intend to take the car off road, in the event of an accident, I want to have some sort of protection...

For those of you with tilts on, how serious of a concern is the roll issue for you? I plan to just drive surface streets and not on the highway. But in the event of an accident, do you think the heavy duty sticks shown above would provide ANY benefit over the regular sticks? If not, then I would just save my money.. but if its partially stronger, then worth that in peace of mind.

Thanks in advance for your answers....

ps - what is your favorite hood manufacturer? Looking for a full with side windows. Exmoor seems to be the big guy around, but there has to be others to choose from, i would think?
