Intermittent Remote Central Locking

Having problems with locking/unlocking doors.
Previous owner got some replacement fobs off EBay I think.
Now, if I approach the car after some time or in the morning the car will unlock on the fob.
When I get to work it will not lock on the fob. I did a test where I left it unlocked for a few hours and when I then tried to lock it on the fob it worked! It then unlocked but would not lock again.
This is for both fobs.
So, sometimes the car responds which tells me it is programmed and the batteries are OK
Seems to only work if it’s been left alone for a few hours.
Anyone any ideas?
Car is 2007 TDV8

Change battery's in the fobs then you have a known starting point, the battery's do seam to recover a bit if left when they are low.

It’s the flip key one. I thought they recharged through being in the ignition

When you change the battery's take care not to loose the little plastic bit that is in there, it's the transponder for the ignition lock loose that and your in trouble.

If the flip key one is self charging the ignore the above, I am sure someone else will be along with more help soon.

On the p38 if the little gate in the ignition barrel doesn't flip back when you remove the key, it won't lock on the fob. Maybe it's the gate getting stiff.
If I leave mine for a long time the gate goes stiff and can take half an hour to flip back into place.
That said, on the P38's if that is happening you get a key in ignition warning when you open the door.
