Can someone help please , L 322 3.0 td6 2004, Auto, I have a starting issue or more accurately non starting issue key turns to proper position but nothing engages no clicks , have read screeds about this , so know need to locate the starter relay , looked in the black box box behind the battery and only one relay there and it’s light brown , I’m told it light green. Also what does the lead off the battery do labelled battery squib .

IT'S A BOMB:eek::eek: think it blows and cuts off the power in the event of an accident. Have you tried moving the gear selector while trying to start? Could be a inhibitor switch problem. Worth doing a search.

You really need your licence back. You've got too much time on your hands, due to nothing breaking down to occupy you.:D

:D:D:D I couldn't agree more, got discharged from my specialist last night so it's just keep taking the tablets and wait till September. ;) How are you feeling?
It might seem a long way away, but you'll be surprised how quickly September comes round. I'm getting better thanks. Finally had some solid food yesterday. Just still have to be really diligent on hand hygiene (including carrying/using one of those little anti-bacterial gel bottles. Good job I always have one in the car), until we find out exactly which bug caused it. If it's salmonella , I can shed it for weeks!:eek::eek:

Back on thread @alfapat , might be teaching you to suck eggs ( uuurrrrggghhhhhh please don't mention eggs) but have you tried all the obvious things before looking to the relay?

Ok , after dismantling the gearcover and part of the console as I was sure the fault lay there the last time this happened, I took it to be a loose connection as It started after tweeking them. There were no specific fault codes so a bit baffled and no one has revealed where the starter relay should be, my theory is the bottom half of the key barrel, however I decided to hotwire the solenoid on top of the starter and nothing happened, no key clicks either by the way from turning the barrel.. My answer to that was a hammer! I t has now started several times , so its starter off today for a refurb !

Surprised you hadn't tried the hammer test earlier. We could probably have saved you all that faffing about with wires and tweeking and whatever else, if instead of saying 'lots', you said what had been tried. The reason 'we' ask what you HAVE tried , is so we can check you have tried the obvious (hit it with a hammer), before suggesting, or supporting, faffing about with relays/ electrics.
Hope this fixes it for you.

Thanks :) In case you hadn't seen the update, I wasn't swing the lead, I have the campylobacter bacteria ;)
What a bugger, I had that for a month and lost 2stone. Went from bed to toilet and back to bed. The local supermarket in the Cannaries had the girls on the fresh chicken counter refil the prepacked meat shelves. They never washed their hands of course because they wore gloves.

I know that feeling well, at the moment.
