Hello I am after some advice, I am looking at purchasing a freelander 51 plate which has been described as having an intermittent knocking noise from the front drivers side.
Having checked the MOT history one of the previous advisories was Nearside Front Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.2.B.1f). Could this now be causing the knocking noise or could it be something more serious.
I don't mind paying a couple of hundred for repair if there is a common issue this could be. The problem is only intermittent so some drives it is fine, could that mean something to do with handbrake? Thanks in adv

Arb bushes, drop links, strut top mount, wheel bearing, seized calipers pins, and driveshafts can all cause knocking, suggest a bit of research!

Appreciate your reply is there not some issues where the knocking would not be only intermittent? Or anything to look out for when I go and view the car? Many thanks!

Until it's checked out you're really only guessing. It could be something very simple like a drop link or a bit more involved like a wishbone, CV joint or even a strut. Grumpy is right to point out it could even have caused further damage but that would be unusual.
Is it worth a punt? That's really up to you.
