Hi Guys,

Just following up on a great response I had from guys in LZIR after breaking down in Cornwall.

My P38 4.6 HSE Thor (99) has developed a "fun" little quirk where the engine cuts out randomly (often at speed which is fun). Managed to make it back in one piece and considering options. On the off chance I purchased a Clarke fault code reader and found the following codes:

P0335a - Crank Position Sensor Circuit A
P1174 - Land Rover Lambda control adaption fault bank 2 (Thanks Gemsdad)
P1667 Engine anti-theft signal circuit low Serial link short circuit to earth
(Thanks Gems Dad)

I've done some digging around on 1174 and 1667, 1174 doesn't seem to be valid on a P38 (which is odd), but I don't know how true that is. P1667 does seem to be referenced in some non starting threads. My problem is that the engine dies but it does generally start from cold, once cut out it can take a good while to restart.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Crank sensor could be your main concern.

That was my thinking, do they tend to go intermittent or just fail? I ask only because the problem started after hitting a big pot hole, so I wonder if perhaps the connector is loose

May get hot and fail then come back online after cooling. Try the connections or swap it out and see what you get.

from what I've read the connections seem pretty easy to get to, not so sure about the ease of replacing the sensor (I haven't really got anywhere safe to do it...or the skill lol).

Datatek mentioned doing some data logging, my scanner will do data logging, but what should I be logging? I'm assuming engine rpm, but not sure.

Live data from engine i would think, when the engine packs up something will go AWOL.
