Intermittent brake binding

Hi folks
A member of the family has come to me with a problem with their freelander. Its a 1997 1.8 with abs. The brakes are binding to the point that it becomes difficult to move the vehicle but then will free themselves for no apparent reason.
Im assuming the vcd has nothing to do with as when the brakes are binding they creak when moving off and the disk and drum get hot to the point of smoking without being used.

Now from the heat being put into the brakes it seems the rear nearside and front offside are at fault. Having stripped both corners and rebuilt the caliper and shoe assembly, everything looks and moves as it should. This is where my expertise gets a little thin.

Is it a coincidence that the brakes at fault run off the same circuit in the master cylinder?
Could a fault with the abs unit cause the brake line pressure to not be released with the pedal?

Any other ideas cause Im scratching my head and the local landrover specialist won't touch it with a barge pole.

No one have any ideas? Looks like im rebuilding the entire braking system a piece at a time then.

Can someone name me a good supplier of re-manufactured brake servos, master cylinders, abs units etc?

If both brakes that are binding are part of the same circuit in the master cylinder I would tend to suspect this myself.

I take it that you don't have the ABS fault light showing (usually along with the traction control and hill decent lights), sometimes a faulty flexi hose can block internally and cause brakes to bind but its unlikely that both would happen at the same time..

Its unlikely to help but maybe worth bleeding the system through first.

Make sure it's stripped and rebuilt properly. The handbrake lower pivot needs to be completely free moving and the front calipers lower guide pins have a horrible rubber sleeve which swells and jams inside the slide.
