Intermittant blue smoke and revving out at 3000rpm

Hiya, like the title says, I noticed a few times recently that the old bus seems a little reluctant to rev much past 3000rpm although it's not often that I try to. Sedimenter and filters were recently cleaned or changed and egr has been done.
Noticed yesterday morning, first thing, that it didn't feel right, felt choked as I pulled away down hill from home then I saw blue smoke at the back. The school run was ok, smoke stopped after about half a mile but wouldn't rev past 3000 - felt as if it had a limiter. Still starts and idles fine with no roughness.
After drop off at school, so about 15 mins, back in car, no smoke and ran better, still doesn't go much past 3500 this time but as I said, there's not much reason for it to do so round here.
Same again today but not quite as bad although blue smoke again for half mile or so.
Not white smoke and not black so I'm assuming oil? And only for a short time.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Went out this afternoon to get the kids, was alone so tried to monitor better. Starts fine, smooth idle, no smoke. Set off down hill, after 100yds or so, seemed to misfire 2 or 3 times quickly putt putt putt then spat grey/blue smoke out for a short time after which it's pretty much as normal except I'm sure it used to rev a little higher. School route is over a mountain road so a lot of second and third gear under load but no smoke.

Did you change the sedimenter seals after cleaning it? If you don't get a good seal, it will suck air and run crap.

By any chance have you changed the cam belt recently? Sounds like the pump timing could be out...mine was. I had a blue smoke on the overrun, and when I held the revs at a constant 2000rpm. Try holding it like that and tell us what happens.

No, not touched belt (prob should really!), once I get the initial few hundred yards of smoke it stops and runs ok apart from not wanting to rev much past 3000 - 3500. Ever since I've had it, it's a bit 'kangarooey', have to be gentle with the throttle and often trying to cruise at a low rev in any gear will cause it to kangaroo but it's something i've just adapted to - my last Disco was very similar!
Cheers

Could very well be the pump timing, from what I gather the timing has a tendency to wander slightly at higher mileages. You can check the pump timing like this: [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWK-z-J13ko&feature=related"]YouTube - land rover technical 200tdi and 300tdi Bosch VE pump timing with the timing cover case intact[/nomedia]
