Hi all, I have a Disco 300 tdi - 1995. I've had problems starting, it seems to be 'electrical' related. When i turn the ignition all the lights come on but the engine doesn't turn - all the igniton lights stay on? I've cahnged the starter motor - twice and the starter relay. I'm wondering if its anything to do with the imobiliser? Would be very greatful for any ideas / suggestions guys

Have you tested the wires to the starter? you should have a thick positive lead, a thick earth lead and a third thin lead. This third lead is the one that supplies the feed to the starter motor when you turn the ignition switch to the 'start' position. First make sure it all three are securely connected and free from dirt and corrosion. The third thin lead should show as an earth when the ignition is off and in the first and second ignition positions. When you turn the key to the third position (start) it should turn to positive and feed the starter solonoid. If it doesn't you have no feed to the starter. If it does but you have no sound then you have a sticky starter solonoid. If there is a clunk but nothing else then the main starter is at fault.

Thanks Ratty, have now checked all the wires, they are tight and clean! The problem tends to happen if i stop, turn the engine off and then try to re start without having got out, i noticed at the weekend a 'flashing' light with a key in it on the dash lights, i took the key out of the ignition and pressed the 'unlock' button on the remote lock fob - it then fired up! I'm sure the problem is related to an imobiliser - having said that i dont even know if there is one on this model??

Thanks again Ratty
- will let you know how it goes

my 300 dose that, the immobiliser cuts in a min or so after switching off. think its in case you forget to lock up

The immobiliser as standard will kick in after approx 30-60 secs to be classed as thatcham class 2 rating. If it annoys you too much you can have it disabled by the garage so it will only work if you press the fob to arm it.

Hi BG, Don't know if Bill told you the 98 disco is still for sale at Kennford. Did you phone for a price?
