Firstly Happy new year for tomorrow to all..

Now then I have 4.4 54 reg V8 l322 and need to know if any one out there can shed some light on to why every now and again when i switch the car on I get a check rear number plate bulb fault or some times check rear light fault come up but all seems to be ok?
secondly seperate to this, this morning I dropped the wife off at work and when I went to drive away I was in D but I didn't go anywhere, I switched the engine off for a couple of minutes then when I started her up again I put her back into drive but she just started making this crunching noise ? I finally after a few attempts got her into gear but then I had to drive home very bloody slowly with the car in low range as she wouldnt come out of it has any one got any ideas as to why my RR is doing this? And am I looking at an expensive 2010 in parts?

Most bulb failure warning systems work by measuring the resistance in the circuit, they will therefore report a fault if the resistance is higher/lower than expected.

They can be so sensitive that simply an off-spec bulb can trigger a fault, BMW systems are notorious for it. Although the bulb may be working something about the reading is not what the ECU is expecting, it could be something like damp causing leakage across contacts lowering the resistance, or corrosion on the contacts raising it (or on an earth connection), or as said it could be just an off-spec bulb, particularly if its a cheapy one.

I have read on other threads that they are prone to eat the torque convertor which then shags the auto box:eek::eek:

any ideas how to check the torque convertor ? sounds like it's going to be another expensive year.

standard procedure for torque converters is
hand brake on, foot brake on, select drive and floor it briefly.

In this case I would not do it
There was a chap that had the same and the torque converter broke up and destroyed box.
He had box replaced and an uprated torque converter.

My advice is get it booked in to be looked at and do not drive it

R,, right bit of a problem there, as I am out in Sudan no dealer here so not sure what to do now  was thinking of getting a torque converter (hoping that fixes problem) when next in UK and bringing back with me to get fitted any ideas how heavy one is ? as it will have to go in the suitcase along with the front fan assembly I need.
Knew I should have left my RR in London and not had it shipped out here as don't think UK spec RR can handle the extreme temps and dust here when I was in UK no problems with the vehicle at all.:( Oh well only 2 years left out here then back to good old London:rolleyes:

Sounds like you should tow it into the desert and put a match to it, assuming you have insurance:D

To continue the saga with my RR it is going in gear (please don't jinx it) now and is at normal height also, and has been behaving for the last couple of days, minus the sounding like gasping for air when i put my foor down (what is that) oh and the fact that the front fan assembly packed up, anyhows my question is would this going in gear fault I have experienced happen again, should I change the torque converter ? taking the car out into the desert isn't an option as claiming on the insurance would be an issue.
I would like to get to the bottom of this with the help of the forum as I don't like driving worrying it will happen again especially as I cant call any one out if things go pete tong.

Many thanks for any further advise...
