Even my bargain basement model has puddle-lamps in the front.

I thought footwell and puddle lights were 2 different things?

Oh well, in that case maybe I don't have them.

Puddle lights are on the underside of the door frame,

Footwell lights are puddle lights by proxy, if your carpets are wet.

There's definitely light of some sort down there but who the hell looks at their feet?!

Actually, I checked once and the biggest rate of extra digits and so forth was somewhere like east London, iirc.

I have a problem with my interior lights as mentioned in other threads. The centre console above thr driver and passenger does nothing-will not come on or respond to pressing the switches. The boot will not unlock either until the interior lights go out. Mine is a problem with the BeCM I think-so sounds like yours could be similar.
