Hi, Up the right hand side of the screen is the interior lighting wires, (purple and black) I have two sets running up there, one set works the interior light but the other set seems to do nothing, Mr Haynes is no help at all, any idea what the other set are for?

Can't see without stripping the dash. The wire has been cut just under the slim piece of trim and goes no further up. There is just two tail sticking out of the dash.

Maybe it was for a work light to the rear with an inline switch?
A friend had similar. You have to have the interior light on for it to work.

Should have 3 wires if standard. Black for earth and 2 purple ones with different traces - one which is permanently live and one connected to the door switches.

Sorry - no idea what black with grey trace could be.

Mine has two wires. Purple is permanent fused live feeding the light. The light has an on-off-on switch, one of the on positions connects to the roof (earthing through the vehicle body) the other on position connects to the other wire (purple with white trace) which goes to the door switches, which then earth to the body when the doors are open.

I wonder whether someone has replaced on of your wires with a different colour.

Four wires in total run up there, PW and BG in two separate looms, one set are live controled by the interior light switch, the other set are dead.

Is there an alarm in the circuit?...

My interior light works on the switch on the light unit, but not on the doors... it used to come on and switch off a minute or so after closing the door - nice touch... but now doesn't work...

I traced the wires and they seem to have a link to the now defunct alarm... I'm in fear of cutting wires around the alarm in case it has enough life to immobilise the engine...occasionally it makes the LED on the dash glow red... just to niggle me... as I fumble for the torch...

TD5 goes like stink... but I hate electrics...
