Hi Guys

I have been thinking of fitting a intercooler to my Turbo diesel 19J for a while now but dont want to pay a fortune for the parts. Can i do the conversion my self? Will a 200tdi or 300tdi intercooler work?
My Turbo diesel is going really well now after the lettle blip a few days ago so will it make a difference and can the engine handle the more power, as i dont really want to kill it . Also just thinking, i have got a huge Daf Truck Turbo in my garage i got from work, could i fit that, i think that would cause alot of stress on these old engines .

Suggestions welcome
Also can you post some pics of the conversion intercoolers so i can get some idea :D.

Cheers
Chris B

no and no. 19j notoriously unreliable and ****. i have one too. it will give a bit more kick with an intercooler but that willl speed up its death. and it was never designed for a turbo in the first place so ur monster DAF afterburner just gonna create a bomb.

the 110's used in the late 80's on the Camel Trophy had intercoolers fitted to the 19j engines - only a similair size to the 200's- did them no harm

Cheers for the replys. I have been to the Peterborough Landrover show today and bought a 200TDI intercooler and several intercooler pipes for about £10 the lot :D. Cant be bad.

Can some people post a few pics of how they fitted the pipes around the cowling and air filter, so i can get some idea please.

Kind regards
Chris

You haven't got a clue!

An intercooler is an excellent modification for a 19J, reducing charge temps can only benefit the engine, dont expect any more power or economy though!

The only negative side of fitting an intercooler is that the engine has another component it can fill with oil over time and one day your engine will run on by burning the oil build up and destroy itself as they are known to do just by filling the airfilters.
