I am fed up with the back breaking ride in my 90 pick up with 2 inch lift and heavy duty springs. Therefore are looking to put this back to standard or even lowered an inch or so.

A search has answered my first question about differences between 90's and 110's but not about different models.

are things like shocks and springs interchangeble between say a 300 series and a puma or would puma stuff be rubbish on an older one due to not having the likes of an anti roll bar fitted, is there anything else to look out for like brackets and mounts being different.

Sorry if this is a daft question, but I'm struggling to find an answer.

Thanks

James

not sure about puma but all others are inter changeable except 110 rear as have wider spring, you can get roll bar kits to fit early models helps with handling if fitting softer springs

Essentially on ebay there seem to be lots of springs and shocks removed from pumas going cheap so fancied putting them on my 300tdi 90. But looking into part numbers and stuff listed on suppliers websites part numbers change with the introduction of td5's. Anyone know wheter early stuff will fit later stuff and vice versa? maybe I'll just have to take a punt and find out.

There are two points to consider here.

1. There is nothing wrong with s 2" lift, but if you are attaining it by running short stiff springs, then that's the issue. Longer softer springs might induce more lean, but would mean a softer ride. You also need to have suitable damping too though.

2. Stock LR bits are just that, stock and designed for general purpose rather than anything else. So it's not just 300 vs Puma, it's what do you use it for. A pickup with nothing in the bed is very light on the back compared a fully loaded hard top.

So do you use it hauling or towing? If not, then you could run a much softer suspension setup at the sacrifice of payload ability.

The current set up using bearmach springs and tuffback shocks does handle well, and you can really chuck it about, but being a pick up it is too light at the back to allow the suspension to work, hence the back breaking ride.

It will be going back to standard height as I don't need the lift kit, the associated increased wear to other items, plus they look cool with the wheels filling the arches nicely. The only thing that gets towed is a race weight mini, so not very demanding, and don't use it for work so doesn't matter about load carrying.

Sorry for the newbe questions but this has now got me thinking about maybe retaining the shocks at least.
