My Money Pit better known as a 96 DSE, has decided it needs more cash spent on it. This time while in the outside lane of the motorway the engine died, got on to the hard shoulder then recovery transported home.
After a few checks ie power going to intank pump, but no flow, and that it was now below a 1/4 of a tank, it seems like the pump has died and the FIP cant pull the diesel through below 1/4 of a tank. I can draw fuel through via a hand pump so its not blocked. I know the tank needs to come out to replace the unit, and its expensive. So a thought crossed my mind........why not fit an after market electronic pump which costs £25, in the fuel line, either with a seperate switchable feed, or even using the original pumps supply. The only thing that may be a problem is the new pump would supply at 3-5psi before shutting off, but then I could fit an inline regulator, which costs about £25, so total outlay £50. Does anyone know if this is a realistic fix, or am I missing something?

Just finished it, total cost £45, no taking the tank out. Looks very smart, and in theory this pump should last a very very long time, compared to the OEM unit:D
