Hi all,

My dad and I cannot figure out why a 200tdi is more expensive to insure than TD5 considering it has more horsepower and is most of the time a higher value.

Any explanation to this would be great.

Cheers!

Is everything else identical? The body configuration makes a difference, as does the number of seats e.g. 10 seat station wagon vs 3 seat hardtop.

Security: TD5 has better security, mine has Alarm and immobiliser, so a bit more difficult to be stolen, TDI's are always in demand for parts so targeted by tea leaves.

200 can be had on classic insurance cheaply, maybe your age is more relevant as opossed to the cars?

It may be because many parts for the 200tdi are not available from Land Rover. So any accident could write off the vehicle in the eyes of an insurance company.
Although parts can of course be obtained used or from aftermarket suppliers.

I doubt that makes much difference as the 300tdi is actually less stolen than the later versions.
But you may be correct. Insurance is hard to fathom sometimes, we pay £280 for a VW Up and they have quoted only another £40 to insure a Defender TD5
