Installing NEW seats in an Old Defender

Hi all,

Everyone might think I'm daft, But i am installing 2012 seats in a 1987 defender 110.

I know there are some adjustments to do this and you will lose some leg room but the question is:

Has anyone attempted or completed something like this?

If someone has could you please tell me what you use/did to get them installed.



On another note i am having some brackets fabricated for the middle section, but have yet to instal the rear forward facing seats without cutting the bed of the truck, which means raising the seat considerably so when it rotates into the up position it will clear the tub. I am in the process of designing some brackets for this but, again if someone has already done this please let me know.

Yeah, have a chefs blow torch available incase the nylon nuts decide not to undo,

Then torch the nylon out and start again,

This was in a 97 Defender 90,

Everything was the same as far as I could work out
 
afaik there are two types.

early has two screws on each channel end, later has a single bolt.

if yours is the same, then you need to drill new holes and reuse/drill the existing spreader or make a new one. not a hard job :)
 
I will take some pics tomorrow and post them for everyone to see. The brackets on the seats are different. Also the Tub for a 1987 Def 110 is different from a 2012. 2012 rear tubs have two different design modifications made. One the incline in front of the tires is not as drastic, mine probably a 45degree angle, newer ones are more like 35. Then the top panel and side panel to the tub are cut out to allow the rear forward facing seats to operate. Quite ingenious to build something like that.

I saw a kit were you can make your tub like a newer one, but can't find it anymore.

Ideas?

This is the lower bracket. The other two are actually attached to the seat.

These are the feet to the middle row seats. Making brackets so when they sit up right the bottoms won't hit the wheel wells. Pushing them forward about 10mil and 1 mil up. The rear bracket that they sit on ha to also go up 10mil.

Two photos of the rear forward facing seats. As u can see the brackets have a stud and two holes for mounting. The problem is, if I was to drill a hole in the floor and just use the stud, it will be unstable.when the seat rotates up.

Like I said above I am designing brackets for this so I don't have to cut the tub. But this will put the rear seat a little higher then want. Something ill just have to get over.


If anyone has an idea please let me know.

Thank you. I haven't decided yet what to do. But I will take some pictures and show everyone what i did at the end. Maybe even have some more fabricated for sell. LOL
