Inspection advice

Hello NelleT,

Where are you buying it from and how old is it?

I suppose you have the first port of call AA / RAC , as I believe they both do pre purchase inspections.

If not buying from a LR specialist, maybe you could ask a local indie specialist to have a look over it. In which case I would be looking for one local to me who I would be using if needed for any work on it to build a relationship. If you are looking specifically for a local company maybe a town name would be a good idea.

Buying a Defender can be a nightmare.

Other than that TBH I am not sure.

Good luck.

Cheers

check the state of the bulkhead. is it rusted? well patched? Many parts on a defender/series can be easily replaced. The bulkhead would be a real ballache though, they also tend to rust more than the other parts of the vehicle since they're steel as opposed to aluminium.

It's Dec 2007 and in Wales so a long way from me. Think I'll go with the RAC, but will look for a local specialist. Thanks for your help! N

It would appear a few other companies have also started doing the pre purchase checks. but never used them myself.

I assume you have actually seen this car yourself?

Did you do an MOT history check / car history check?

Cheers

Thanks Neilly, I went with warranty wise in the end. Collecting it this week so I'll know better then. Fingers crossed!

Ok, how did you find the service and the report? Have never used a company to actually check a vehicle so am interested how you found the experience? Does the name imply they also give a warranty with the inspection?

Hope it is all good and you have a nice surprise waiting for you when you pick it up.

You can take a warranty out with them but it's not incl in the inspection itself. I've had to phone then a couple of times and they've been helpful. Feels like a slightly smaller company so a bit more personal. They don't include a phone call from the engineer like some do but they contacted him straight away with a query I had.
I don't suppose you know the diameter of a C type steering wheel do you. 2007 90 SW. Ordering a Disklok and can't decide on M or L?
Thanks!

Sorry I do not, maybe worth starting a new post in the Defender section. Security is always a high priority on Landies. I would also suggest a tracker and a pedal lock. But as with all security it only works if you fit it.

Cheers
