he helped me out anyway, renewal down from £1500ish to £630, not bad for 23 with 2 years ncb 300tdi discovery in a bad area(merseyside)

I just took up with LV for my Disco, £550 with Class 1 business use and protected no claims (no mods, yet)

AF were about £10 dearer without the protected no claims. That's after quoting me £297 until I queried if that really, really covered business use.

One question I really hate is "what's the best quote you've had?"

Sorry guys, no clues, just give me your best price, you won't get another chance until next year

Am with Steve on the "whats your best quote"

I want your best quote, mines due shortly so I am soon going to be facing the insurance pain.

But with voluntary work and amber lights am sure there is a few that might try pull my pants down.

Steve & loudandproud,

I can understand where you are coming from, however, we do ask this question do we can get you the best quote. In our company we have access to schemes which will allow us to adjust premiums in the vase that your risk profile is one which we wish to write up, yet cannot compete with on our rates that quote on our panel.

However, to use these schemes we need to approach underwriters directly, and a question we are asked is how much you've been quoted, if we have nothing to present to them, they are reluctant to reduce the premiums further as it may be the case we are the cheapest in the end.

Regards,

Ed

I'm only on my first policy (I'm with Flux) and the one thing I'd say to anyone is, don't look merely at the price. Different policies will give you different cover and is a saving of £40 much of a saving if the company you're insured with never pick up their phones etc.

There was a company other than Flux who were offering very good prices (considering I have no NCB) but the fact is that everytime I tried to talk about a policy with them we'd hit a stage where they'd need to go away and then ring me back.......only they never did. By contrast Flux have only had to hang up on me once and when they said they'd call back they did (ok it was a few minutes more than 30 but not by much!).

Consider who it is you're dealing with and how easy they are to get a hold of and talk to, because when sh*t goes south, that's going to be VERY important.

That's just my 2 cents.
