Hi I am planning to add an inline fuel filter to my S3 petrol. I was planning to put it just before the carb, as that seems to be where most people put it. However, a friend suggested that I put it further back down the fuel line on the dizzy side of the engine so that if it leaks it doesn't leak onto the hot manifold which would be bad!

Obviously installing it properly (so that it doesn't leak) is what is required, but has anyone got any thoughts on this?

Mount away from hot things that could cause the fuel to vaporise.
Make sure you put the filter the correct way.
Mount where you can see fuel going through for any fault finding

Agreed. Don't forget the dizzy is also a hazard. My freinds Reliant ended up a pile of melted gloop when the fuel line leaked onto the dizzy and it all went up in smoke; flames came through the dash! There was general agreement that this was the best thing that could have happend to it but that's not true for a Series.
