Popped the M8 threads out of the head for the inlet manifold .... DoH!!
Moment of carelessness, rushing to get the new turbo in, all excited read the torque setting as 35NM (not the 25NM it should have been), got upto the 30 mark and thought "this seems tight" - BANG - bowl arks unt buggeration (I exclaimed)...
So I poked the end of my digital measuring stick in the hole to find it's blind and tapped to a depth of 20mm.
The thread of the original bolt sticks out the manifold by 11mm. So 9mm of thread intact. M8x1.25 means I have more than 6 turns in the head, which is enough.
So I order some longer bolts (110mm) which turn out to be longer than required (which I knew they would be) but indicated another issue in that the part threaded section was to small and would catch the head.
So I ran an M8 die down it to extend the thread by 10mm. There is no shoulder now, but the bolt itself is to long.
So I measured, measured and measured again then cut and measured and measured to ensure I had 19mm sticking out (19.2 on one and 19.3 on tother).
Happy that I have 1mm clearance + the thickness of the gasket and circa 8mm of engaged thread - on went the inlet manifold and 'click - click' went the torque wrench @ 25NM
Here's the three bolts from L/R - original, new recut and trimmed, new as received
