I'm planning on replacing the injector seals and copper washers in my 2004 TD5 and was wondering if anyone knew what the size of the seat cleaning tool is? I see that you can buy kits with several sizes in them on ebay but I can't find any that specifically mention compatibility with TD5/Land Rover.

Thanks in advance.

Personally, unless they're obviously pitted, I'd leave them alone. There's a risk of making them worse, as well as dropping swarf into the cylinder. I just cleaned mine up with the handle of a wooden spoon sharpened to a chisel like edge, to get the soot off them. I was able to clean the black off, and the new ones seem to be OK still, three and a half years later, so around 40,000 miles.

I agree with Brown. Unless there is an obvious pitting problem causing leakage I would clean the face.

Why are you "planning" to change the injector seals and washers, are you having problems with your injectors, oil level rising or poor running, if not leave them alone, if it aint broke etc. Or are you rebuilding your engine.

Poor starting problems. I've looked up the symptoms and this seems to be a common cause of the problems I'm having. I'm going to do it according to the guide in LRO April 18 issue. I'm "planning" in respect to getting all the required tools, parts and information to ensure I do it right.

Cleaning and inspecting the injector seats will inform whether I need to use a seat cutting tool. I'd rather have one to hand in the event I find I need one so I can get the job done in one go rather than finding I need the tools and then have to order them and wait for delivery. My nearest source of parts and tools is a 60 mile round trip away and I'm not guaranteed to be able to get what I want locally anyway.
