Has anyone made adjustment to this and how critical is it ?...I fitted a complete replacement 200 tdi engine a year ago and felt that it never has given enough power. My local dealer advised that I firstly check timeing (all ok) then secondly screw in the adjustment on the top/back of the injector pump. I did this by the recomended half a turn. Result was a marked increase in power but with some white smoke with black smoke on start up. Subsequently I returned this One quarter turn. Now the power is good and the smoke gone. Well, you may say all is OK why am I writing this. As this adjustment seems so sensitive how can you tell if it is anywhere near the setting that Land Rover gave it at manufacture? Also what part of the pump am I affecting in this adjustment?

I'd appreciate some help on this subject as well. Have a slightly smokey 200TDi and I'd like to know more about the pump. #there must be some knowledegable types here.

and me, i think, mine gives out an almighty puff of black smoke on start up and any time i ask too much of a gear. i.e foot flat. and im sure it doesnt have the power that it should.

OK - "use a dti gauge". But on what, where? I'm not familiar with anything other than the basic ideas behind the diesel injection pump, so which piece of the pump to put a clock on I don't know.

If it doesn't smoke when you blip the throttle or when you give it full bore on the road then it's ok.
You should get a small amount of black smoke when you floor it from tickover but none on the road. If it goes all right and there is no smoke then you have got it right, dont worry too much, you wont break it:)

hi there ,the torx adjuster on the top adjusts the turbo boost presure , its safe to run 0.8 bar , it is possible to get 1 bar boost presure but a concequence of running high boost is very hot exhaust gasses, its best to install a boost vacumgauge to monitor these things and to aid in set up.
on your pump at the rear where the four pipes go to the injectors there is an adjuster ,this is the full power adjuster it has a steel ring band fitted ,easily removed with slight tap with hammer and sharp screwdriver ,undo the six mm nut with a ten mm ring spanner ,note the position of the adjuster it has a small hole through the end start by screwing the adjuster in(clockwise) only a quater of a turn at a time and while holding the adjuster with a screwdriver lock the ten mm nut take care not to lose track of your adjustments! test drive ,you should have more fuel at full power and a noticable increase in grunt, if it doesnt smoke at full throttle then adjust it a little more ,when a slight signs of black smoke are present at full throttle its nearly as good as it gets back off adjuster a slight amount and your good to go ...........dont just mess around with your pump its a very delicate part if your not sure seek help there are lots of posts on this subject, other things to check are all turbo hoses for signs of delamination , they look ok but on the inside of some braided hoses hides a nasty blockage caused by the hoses internal weaves coming apart caused by high air flow and heat etc ! intercoolers often get blocked with mud and leaves not internaly but externaly , make sure all these things are in good order, fuel filter, lift pump, fuel feed lines, and it will all be beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just been out playing with mine, not perfect yet but wow what a difference it makes! smoke is almost gone appart from on starting and i have 10 times more power now!
cheers guys

Black smoke on start up is ok as my 200tdi does it ... and i have no power problems but if you turn it too high you will get the black + white smoke
