The subject of bio fuels is on everyones lips at the moment. TD5s apparently can not run on bio fuel - Why is this? All fuel sold at the pump has 5% bio in it now so is this a lie by LR as they have not tested bio and do not want any associated grief if things go wrong.

What would go wrong on a TD5 and why? This is the only common rail vehicle I have found that is unable to run bio diesel but not one person can say why - is it a myth?

My 300 tdi ran perfectly well on the stuff if regular flter changes were done and the fuel was good quality. Poor fuel is poor fuel and will ruin any engine - quickly! Good fuel of any sort should not harm so why can a td5 not take it.

Somebody please help my quest for the truth.
 
I am told i have viton seals andpipes that are not affected by the bio like rubber would be. Apparently after 1995 all manufacturers changed to viton as it is the best material for modern fuels full stop.

Interestingly my 94 300 tdi has never rotted away (sadly only the fuel system) and if what the industry says it should have done many thousands of miles ago.

I still think its a td5 urban myth.
 
I think it is something to do with common rail engines. But I wouldn't risk it with a fuel pump that costs £130 and injectors which run to a few hundred quid per set
 
Sadly the injectors on a td5 are a bit more than that at approx £450.00 each plus fitting.

I would just like to know what biodiesel is supposed to do to them as i am unable to find any evidence of damage caused through the use of quality fuel. Most td5 probs such as the in tank pump dying should be a thing of the past when using bio as it lubricates the fuel system beter than mineral diesel.

I think td5s weak points are regular filter changes are a must. Anyone else agree?
