Hi all,
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this! apologies if not!
I'm a newbie to the joys of landy's and seem to be having the common problem of the indicators not working on my defender 110?
I've read up as much as I can find, but still having no joy?
They basically just stopped working a couple of weeks ago including the hazzards- so naturally I changed the relay - nothing - then the hazard warning switch - which made the hazards work on rear and front passengers side ..but still no indicators ...I then changed out the indicator stalk (just in case) and again nothing ..then the dipped beam stopped working 2 days ago ..
I spent yesterday checking all fuses & changing out all the lights & repeaters for new units (they were fairly shabby anyway) and repairing any chaffed or brittle wiring, checking the earths etc. I even replaced the towing lights connector (again very shabby anyway) & checked all the wiring......again ..it remains EXACTLY the same ..No indicators or dipped beam
I'm kinda stumped now!! I did notice the cigar lighter has stopped working as well, but am not sure if connected? ...
Can anyone suggest anything else to try? the landy gets used daily so am fed up with people inventing their own hand signals at me when they fail to see mine haha!
Greatly appreciate ANY advice! thanks !!! Jay :crazy_driver:

I may add as a footnote that my landy (like many other it would seem!) has been fairly 'got at' electrically! ..it has been fitted with an alarm (that I found hanging off the chassis yesterday!! and there looks to be a very heath robinson
attempt at a stereo fitting ...which doesn't work ...but looks very pretty ...oh and some form of hands free...so all in all a fair selection of add - ons ...that don't work hahaha!

checked all the earth straps?

I was having problems with dipped beam/ main beam lights, and when it was in the garage last week for some gearbox work the loom that runs along the drivers side of the engine bay caught fire as they were getting it on the ramp! now they've cut into the loom and fitted new wires everything woks ok :D

Yeah - I've checked the earths & all seem good with clean connections ...hah! blimey! that sounds like a narrow escape though mate! :D ..still ...at least it would've been warm in there for once!
I'm rapidly begining to think it'll have to go into the garage ... I just a) have bugger all money at the moment!! and b) begrudge not being able to sort it myself!!! ..they don't seem the most complicated electrics in the world! its making me feel a proper divvy not being able to figure it out!!!

I would check hazard switch first, flick it on and off vigarously a few times and see if indicators work. If not I would renew the hazard switch as they are known to go faulty.

Try fuses, clean the fuse box contacts and ends of glass fuses as they get dirty and then the contacts are iffy.
:)

Thanks man, but alas I've already swapped out the hazard switch for a new one and it works all indicators now apart from front drivers side? ..but still no indicators anywhere! I"ve been through the fuse board and cleaned /replaced etc. (mine has blades not glass) but also to no avail! ..I think I've done most obv things but my knowledge with electrics is basic at best tbh which prob doesn't help! haha!

Have you got a switched live going to the stalk?

If so, does it exit?

Check the stalk connector block.

Is there a permanent live at the hazard switch?

Check the hazard switch earth is actually earthing or nothing will work.

Buy a tester and be systematic. WD all connections.

Put some pics on if possible.

Got to be either the bullit connectors under the wing or the lamp unit is not earthed properly due to corrosion:)

Thanks guys - soon as I get a chance this week I will try/investigate the above & post some pics! appreciate the help greatly! :)

Might help if you said where you are, as there could be someone local who could give you a hand.

Welcome, by the way.

Hopefully, there will be someone around with experience of these things that can come along and give you a hand.

Any takers??

just as an update to the above posts ..I finally cracked it!!!:D:D:D
Turns out to be a combination of things ..having taken the advice given I started METHODICALLY checking everything!!!!
ANyway the major fly in the ointment being that some 'Helpful' bugger had obv knackered the r/hand side of the loom so then was pulling power across from the left hand side via some VERY well concealed connections that they had routed via the RADIATOR!!!!:eek: so turns out (quite logically!!) that the connection had perished hence no lights r/hand side! AND the constant blowing of fuses!
I reckon I could've found that quicker & easier had the issue not been 'fudged' by the fact I bought & replaced the hazard switch whilst trying to solve the problem ..only to now find out the switch was FAULTY.:mad::mad: which MASSIVELY annoyed me as it had me going round & round in circles looking for a problem it was causing!!!!! I don't know the rules here so won't say where it came from, but needless to say I shall be complaining!!!!!
In short I think this has been a great intro into what people have told me about lands being 'got at'!!!
But once again thanks for all the replies - very much appreciated!!
Right ..I'm off to indicate loads ..put my hazards on ..and dipped beams at all times!!! if you see what looks like a xmas tree on wheels flashing lights its probably me..cheers!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Hi, I'm having the same no indicator problem. I had a bird strike which stoppped the front right from working, in the process of sorting this i shorted it out in the lamp holder. It blew the fuse, so i changed that and now nothing. I have broiught a new flasher unit and tried that without and effect. The seems to be earth and power at all the switches and when i short he power at the indicator stalk, i can hear a week click in the flasher unit. But I can't get power at any othe the lights.

So the hazard switch looks like the next thing to change, before i get a new one, is there a way of proving it is knackered, or by passing it to confirm that the rest of circuit is sound?

This has been really winding be my up today - was hoping to rebiuld me winch not muck about with electrics!!!
