I bought a Britpart indicator switch less than 18 months ago,and I need a new one already! I know they're a weak point, but is it worth paying twice as much for a Lucas one? Are they any better?
Edit: 1991 Defender.

used allmakes last time. qual seems alright, not as good as orig, but after a while the stalk spins.. i need to glue it.

edit: ah no, that was the other side. the indicator side with the metal frame is still going fine iirc.

In a word yes.

Many many years ago, before I knew what Britpart even was, I bought a Britpart indicator switch. Failed within the year, fitted a Lucas switch, that was about a decade ago. I am surprised people still feel the need to ask these questions.

You will ALWAYS buy again soon with Britpart.

Looks like 1 or 2 year life for a BP switch, how long did the original last (20+ years?). Think the answer is staring you in the face!

Cheers, I know how good :)rolleyes:) Britpart stuff is, but Lucas have their detractors too. Anyone know about old MOD stock?
Don't bother, mod might be britpart as well, the thing is the army can afford to replace ****ty switches when ever they want.
Do your self a favour and buy Lucas, stop being as tight as a pizzahut salad bowl.

Might have changed hands but probably the same tooling for manufacture.

i'm not sure.. i think elta have the uk license for the uk electrical side. if they are basically selling the license for the brand now.. then who knows.

lucas part in uk will be different to the lucas electrical part in america?

Well, I tried to fit the switch today only to find that the screw holes for the wiper switch are in the wrong place - they're about 2mm off. It's marked "LUCAS UK" AND "63SA" on the black plastic part of the switch. I'll be returning it to the seller and buying elsewhere.

Seems sensible to resurrect an old thread, rather than starting a new one.....
I have a 1994 Def 110 S/W 300tdi. The indicator switch is going. The indicators are OK, but moving from main beam to dip I get some scary 'blackouts'. If I was minded (!) I could hold the switch in between the two positions and have no headlights at all......
So, looking for a part number. *bay says PRC 3875, but only for vehicles up to 1989. That said, it looks pretty close to mine, and most of the listings are for this part... Are there significant differences, or are they interchangeable??
Mine has the 8-way black rubber multi-connector.
Thanks.

Try cleaning it, they usually don't wear out, they break first, remove the switch and get a decent switch cleaner on the contacts, or try wd40.

And make sure it hasn't melted, dirty connections cause resistance, which causes heat, which can melt stuff.
