indicator flasher unit

You'd be best to wait and check - Electrics on series are so hashed around it would be impossible for anyone to compitently say without seeing it for sure.

going off the original factory standard wiring diagram its a 2 pin unit

but as said above over the years the wiring harness on any series could be heavily modified botched or damaged so hold yer horses and see what yer got first :D:D:D

it's definately bodged, modified and damaged! :D

noticed my light switch was getting hot last night after 90 minutes stuck in traffic cos of a little bit of snow  and there is a short in the stalk (I hope) between the headlight flash and OS indicator. I love old wiring.... not!

maintenance day this weekend so will get it all sorted then I spose, just a pain having to order the parts than wait another week to have flashing indicators (well without waggling the stalk up and down! :D

What year is your 109? I've a 83 with hazards which has 3 pins, I assume hazards were a very late intro cs the 1980 Swb I had didn't have them

it's a 75/6 - just had a look and it's a 2 pin unit, but there's an extra wire piggybacked onto one of the terminals.

nothing is ever easy! spose I'll have to work out what the extra wire is for before I do anything else now..... or order the 2 pin and wire it up the same :D

Hi people,
Might be a silly question, but where is the flasher unit on a S3 1977? When I remove the instrument panel, theres a 2 pin unit that I *think* might be the hazard warning unit. (There's a green light in the middle of the instrument panel that I think is the hazard warning light), The 2 pin unit is in the middle right behind the instrument panel. and is a small rectangular thing in its own mounting bracket thats screwed to the bulkhead.

Switching on the indicators, I can hear the thing, just can't see it. Sounds as if its somewhere bottom right.

Need to change it coz I'm installing some Wipac LED light units and the standard flasher unit can't cope with the reduced resistance of the LED unit ( unless you add a ballast resistor )

Any help/ piccies as to where it is would be great
Thx
Alex

The flasher unit is somewhere up behind the dash. Mine is a two terminal one and it's well hidden. Try following the light green/brown wire from the indicator stalk, it should lead you there. The two pin thingie screwed to the back of the clocks is the voltage regulator for the fuel and temp gauges.

Hey guys. Dnt mean to hijack a thread. I have cylinder shaped flasher relay that looks identical to normal ones only mine has 4 pins? Only reason iv seen it was due to it starting to get very hot and burning. So I was curious as to what the spare 4th pin was? And also to query why (after the relay nearly burnt out) both my the left and right lights on my dash flash together? I thought the flasher was before the stalk? So how could the relay have that effect?

Hazard ...
and do yourself a favour and rewire your lights, adding new relays, taking some effort out of your poor old wiring ...

Correct me of I'm wrong but don't the old flashers work on a bi-metallic strip? If so wouldn't using relays for the lights stop the flasher working properly?

does the spare terminal have a number or code? if it is labelled c2 it is the terminal for trailer warning lights so you can ignore it

its normal for both dash indicator lights to flash afaik, mine did on my s3 I rewired them into the wires that go to the bulbs and earthed them to the dash so now only the direction you are indicating flashes

mine don't have relays and they are fine

I already have a lil red light that flashes once with the indicator. Assuming that's my trailer warning light. I don't even know where that's wired in. Alot of the wiring behind the dash has been tampered with at some point

standard for a series :D, fortunately they are easy to get to grips with, redid most of mine with the manuals and some help from people on here, knew jack about auto electrics before I started

as I say if it has c2 on it its for trailer warning lights should you need it, that's what mine has on it, mine is spare too, mine has 4 pins but two are spare now as I took the wires for the dash lights off and wired them differently

I was curious about the 4th terminal so I did some research and found a terminal code table and that's what it said for c2
