hi
my 2001 td4 has developed an electrical fault, when I indicate right not only do the right hand lights flash but also both side and tail lights.this does`t happen when I turn left.if the side lights are on and I indicate right, the lights don`t flash just stay on until the indicator is switched off.I am hoping that this is a simple earth fault, but where do I start looking for the right earth point.
and just to add, when I set the alarm all indicators flash and now the side and tail lights also flash!

Classic bad earth symptoms: Earth points to check: Under bonnet- driver side just left of bonnet switch and driver side rear of vehicle adjacent to lower tailgate hinge behind interior trim panel.

thanks for that. I have had a look under the bonnet today at what I believe to be earth points on the drivers side.nothing lose and no signs of rust so will look at the rear earth point.what else do I need to look for when looking for a classic bad earth?

just spent the last couple of hours looking at the earth points.removed and cleaned 2 earth points under the bonnet on the drivers side and 1 behind the tailgate.also checked all the bulb holders and sprayed with wd40 and checked for any faulty wires.still no joy.looks like I may have to go to an auto electrics expert.

maybe a short between flasher unit and lights relay, have you checked the relay/fuse boxes too?

looked at the fuses but couldn`t see any blown, but if they had I guess there would be no lights.apart from putting in a new relay,is there another way to check for a faulty one.?

just removed relay 6(flasher unit)and turned side lights on and the right hand side indicators still light up,so I guess that rules out the relay. Also checked fuses f25 and f28.still no joy!

Ended up calling a mobile auto electrician, who after 1 and 1/2 hours found the fault.plastic on 2 wires behind the hazard switch had melted and caused the short.£40 in total to get sorted, not bad for a call out service.
