Had some help changing my shocks and whilst away picking up some bits they have managed to misalign my axel and drop my drive shaft. They then tried to jack the drive shaft back together. So Im truely in it atm. I need to seperate the drive shaft so i can hopefully slip the splines back in and replace the uj connection nuts. The problem I have is that the axel is wedged back at the full extension of the splines which seem jammed. Just looking to get the two apart with minimal damage to the e3st of the vehicle.

No help if that's the best they can do, you need to do some further sympathetic dismantling to relieve the stress in the prop to enable you to reassemble, remember the u j's need to line up front to back

Could you not just unbolt one end of the propshaft, align and compress it. Sort the diff out and reconnect? There are arrows to indicate correct prop alignment, do a search for details.

When reconnecting, jack up one of the rear wheels so you can rotate it to align the prop.

loosening one of the bottom link arms should allow you to move the axle enough to get the prop off. Back off the big nut at the chassis end.

Thanks for the help lads. Think Imay have to clamp the flexi for the rear brakes drop the link arms and hope for the best.

looks like you have easy access to the prop bolts.. like above why not take it off?

Bolt's all ready out in pic.

i just can't grasp how this happened just changing the rear shocks? it's just two fixings per side and a straightforward swap. what am i missing?

Same here, one of the most simple jobs to do on a coiler yet they manage to make a mess of it.
How???

I guess they jacked up the chassis and removed both shocks which allowed the axle to drop, there was probably enough movement in the A-frame to let the prop fully extend and pop apart.
Am I correct?


DIY next time, a lot easier & safer.

Prob shafts are balanced so if is seperated needs to go back exactly into the same splines as before or it might vibrate afterwards !

I wouldn't use that flexible brake hose again. Looks like the axle has hung on it at some point.

Yea replacing the hose. And the drive shaft. And am definitely doing it all myself in future. Was going to get the rest of the back done while Im waiting on the new drive shaft anything I need to do to make sure the new one drops in without worries.

Just reassemble it, sorted
