Should really be changing brake pipes but don't feel like it, I've got my eyes on a bit of 20mm angle!

After an opinion first though - If I weld lengths of it verticly to my steering guard (the lower part of it), do you think it'll drag through the mud any easier? I found that it seemed to be getting "bogged down" in the mud quite badly when I last used the disco.

Also, can anybody tell me the diameter of where a diff guard goes please, gonna look into making my own (I know they're cheap but I enjoy making stuff).
 
lol, no verticly - I can see the point about bigger surface area but that can work both ways - i.e. same weight spread over a bigger surface area is actually less friction.

Just to clarify what I meant though, picture a steering guard, just a straightforward bit of 6mm steel plate (looking from the front of the car), it's bent about two thirds of the way down - I'm on about the lower bit of the plate, welding bits of 20mm angle to the plate upright, it'll stiffen the plate but will it make the steering guard pass through muck any easier?

The other bit, you know where a diff guard has a loop of steel that goes around the diff itself to hold it on, what's the diameter of what it goes round i.e. the diff?

doubt it, will just clog up or get bent. its only there for protection not so you can go ploughing :D
 
Lol, fair enough - was only an idea really.

R.e. the diff guard, when I wrote the o.p. I wasn't at home but wanted to see if I could find some big pipe clamps to alter but I've had a new idea after seeing some diff guards on ebay; they were held on by the bolts in the diff itself so that might be an option unless you guys have any horror stories about the guard actually damaging the diff because it's mounted in this way?
