Nothing to do with extra power, I just need the discovery to work normally and it has no power at all. Pulls like a dead cart horse.
Having had feedback from people on here I took it for a service 100 quid blown for no result.
Took it to a landrover "specialists" garage, lots of tampering but no result.
Ok so Phoned a few people to find out about turbos and failures and leaky hoses and stuff , good result . I identified some leaky hoses got them replaced but still no power.

Chased up previous owners via the log book AND FOUND OUT IT HAD NEW TURBO 4000 MILES AGO .
At this point everyone said there is no smoke , so not a turbo failure , some oil leaking into the pipes between turbo and the intercooler but the only sound clue was the whistle from the turbo . Not a leaking pipe cos all of them had been done .

Ok so in frustration , not being a mechanic I got the socket set out and a screw driver and took all the pipe work off the Turbo... and ....out of the pipe from the Air filter to the turbo ... dropped a small piece of aluminium !!!!. Of course you cant see into the turbo so being a COMPUTER TECHNICIAN I have a handy supply of lexmark printer driver cd's which are quite good as mirrors . Taking a peek into the turbo I found no blades in the turbo at all. I assume these would act as an impellor creating suction, no air pressure no ram effect no turbo = no power?
Thanks everyone for all the clues and finally I have the solution.

:)

OK So where do I get a turbo fitted for under 600 quid? any one got any ideas?

Wow! That's a bit of bad luck, guess the previous owner went on the cheap? Can't help with sourcing a new turbo though, sorry...

well Theres a yard in Bradford beside Simonites where I got the turbo off a p reg discovery and the labour cost for the job of taking off the old unit putting on the new unit changing the oil and oil filter came to about £120 so with £125 for th e turbo got the power back for about £250 so I am not too out of pocket...yet ...!
The lads did tell me that the diff levels hadn t been checked, th e gear box oil hadn t been changed recently , th e steering lube hadnt been done an d th e brakes were pretty well shot so the £100 I paid for the service 2 weeks ago was a complete waste of money . Now I need 4 calipers 2 disks and some more investigations doing.
Now the gear selector stalk and the cover by the gear stalk is really hot. I wonder if there is an oil cooler for the auto transmission that isn t doing its job?

Why would there be so much heat in the top of the geaar box? (4 speed auto)

Thats about par for the course. Check your fluid levels and colour (should be a nice red) but I wouldn't get overly worried unless the box starts to misbehave.

Just read your post mate, If you forked out £100 on a service then if you find fault with the vehicle within a
REASONABLE PERIOD
of time, then in the eyes of the law the garage has failed to comply with trading standards code of practice!!!!!

Its worth taking the time to find out what the garage did to your vehicle,
in a recent case I dealt with my client ,MR A, drove his car out the gates of a large dealership, after spending £265 on a service, During the operation of the service, the vehicles nearside front brake calipper was removed to gain access to a faulty wheel bearing, In the re'fitment of the brake linings the mechanic forgot to check there safe operation of the brakes, ie, pumping the brake pedal !!!!!!

MR A, chuffed the wheel bearing was at last fixed, drove at around 30mph into the side of an UNMARKED POLICE CAR!!!, The dealership denied any blame and chose to let MR A, take his case to the small claims court, BIG MISTAKE!!!!!

After lots of legal stuff (a trade term in law!!!!) We won damages of nearly £14.000.

If you can prove your defects were visable at the point of service, then get in touch with trading standards!!!!!!
