would of thought this is an unlikely market for a trailer ... new recruits to the wonderful world of driving get the privilege of taking a seperate test for trailers nowadays, grandpa ...

my insurance ('76 s3 88 with mods) was £97 tpft. however it didn't beat my insurance last year on the daily driver ('97 citroen zx 1.9d, don't laugh, it does 55mpg on veg oil!) which, unlimited mileage with me and the missus, was £58 for the whole year tpft. (Post Office).

good luck with your landy hunt. it's an expensive lifelong addiction, but I guess it's possibly slightly cheaper than smoking.

how do you get a quote from footman james classic insurers as im 24 and it says you cant get insurance from them till you are 25 ????

Exactly, I use mine as a daily drive aswell and I'm a student so strapped for cash, but I still love my 88", way I look at it, the cheap insurance makes up for the crap MPG, theyre easy to work on and fix, surprisingly nice to drive (get an overdrive though) and it's just different to your typical crap little battered fiesta or similar 1st cars. Go for it if you think you'll like it.
my first car was a little fiesta, then had a spate of em, 9 in total including rs models and a manic rally car, got rid of all my blue ovals n bought my series 3, never looked back n should have got one when i was 17

Really?! On what? Was it a V8 something or other or an ex mil? They wouldn't insure me on an FFR for some reason but they would a civi 88". I'm paying £420 and I'm 19. Did you ask for a classic policy? You just want a normal policy, at 24 it should be about 50p!
What did you tell em though?

Was it over the phone or tinterweb?

I'd second Footman James.

Ditto.

My LtWt 2.25 was £90 with FJ. Fully comp, unlimited miles, and my n/c used up on other car.

Thing about being a youngun with a big car they think you're going to kill someone with it, or total a ferrari. If you use a specialist and say you're member of an appropriate club they look upon you with a greater kindliness.

That said I used to pay nearly £500 in a 1.1 chevette. :'/

I want me one of them! Swap you for a 95 Civic. ;)

I've got a 109 exmod pickup. Its a blast to drive. I don't find it hard to turn around at all, but its shorter than my sedan so that might have something to do with it. It's not really even that slow once you tune it up, i've hit 65 in mine on a flat before :p

I bought a S3 88" Diesel for £450 when I was 18. Insurance for first year was £850 (ish) with no no claims. Now, she's just under £450 with 2yrs no claims, my girlfriend on the policy (which is a waste of money as she is 'scared' of driving it in london) and limited to 3000 miles. Series odometers disconnect very easilly!! I'm with Footman James and they are excellent. Highly recomended.

Perhaps you should wait until you get a bit bigger before you go and buy a mans vehicle.
Try Sure term i use them for a s2a 88" with v8 and don't pay more than £250.
I've had a fwe 109's and you'll love it mate just go and look at a few, get your head under it if it's not too ripe and the outriggers are still looking pretty good not much to worry about, check for play in the steering box by wiggling the steering wheel from side to side (i think the most play iv'e had is 4 1/2" but that just makes for fun driving. I really abused all my pervious landys and they love'd it.
I personaly prefer the 88's cos they're not so boaty but it's difficult to sleep in th back of them.
The series definatley got more personality than the 110.

im 16 and ive bought two insuring at 78 petrol soon as my first car

I looked at footman james, but for some reason they say that they're unable to provide an online quote 'cos i'm under 25....odd....

Speaking of MPG, what could I expect roughly from either a diesel or petty model? And also, on models which aren't tax exempt, what tax bracket do they fall into?

Ah superminis aren't that bad....lol my daily driver is a T reg Mk1 Punto.....nothing flash, but it's the 16v 1.2 so it's quicker than you'd think....and considering how poor they are in a crash, so little weight to lug about....surprising what you can wind them upto lol!

And yes Transits are awesome...I used to work in a garden centre for a few years before I went to uni and I was lucky enough to be allowed to drive the Transit...was only a 90 T250, but still nice to drive....The hilux I drove was pretty awesome; the 3.0 D4D is unbelievably quick and easily wound up to licence loosing figures....pretty good in a 2 tonne bit of kit lol!

2.25 petrol i roughly exspect 17+20 doosil is abit more but not much and there slow pre sep 1972 is tax exempt o jus rember if ya a scrawny bastid your gonna need to work on ya arm muscles no power steering im restoring a 1978 2.25 petrol atm lwb good fun

i know this might not go down well on a landy site, but i sometimes think i'd have been better getting a toyota hilux before i got a landy, mines nippy, selectable 4x4, ace heater, tows anything i want, keeps me dry when it rains, takes heaps of ****e in the back..... ok it does get stuck in the dirty puddles and falls off the road when it rains but it's still great fun!!

all my landy's very are great fun too but can be a pain in the arse alot of the time!! :D
