Did the mod today, thermostat up the top hose, temp now between 85 and 90 degrees, toasty. Tomorrow morning see how far it takes to get up to normal running temp. Looking good so far.;)

Hi,

Im driving now for a few weeks with this thermostat.
But meanwile i notice that the gaughe getting only into the middle when i'm driving on motorway.
On normal roads the gaughe is going only just over 1/4th.
Can there be a other problem?

Air block around thermostat or wrong stat?

or.... maybe the water pump is knurdled. On a lot of modern cars the vanes are plastic and shear off. What was wrong with metal ones for feck's sake....

But then this would cause overheating so fekked if I know..

I also own a Rover 75 CDTi. Same engine, same problem solved this problem with the same stat.

Re my previous entry ( 23rd November ) - the extra warmth is not the only plus after fitting the stat. I've just re-fuelled, and calculating the mpg on the last fill-up gives me 34.03 mpg. That is a 6% improvement on pre-stat days !! I expect to see even better figures on a reasonable journey instead of the usual 1.5 miles to work !!

got mine today hopefully fitting it tomorrow :)

only thing is when i ordered it over here in germany it was hard to explain what i needed as they find parts dif to over in uk ,they dont use chassie or reg they use numbers from your log book, but seeing its not a german log book i dont have these numbers :-(

the one ive got is not the same :-( and it opens at 89 not 83 !

the diamentions are the same so im going to try it lol hopefully the opening at 89 will not cause me any problems???? if you think it will please say

Hi,

Don't know how to post pics here, but here you can see some pics i just make.
Inline Thermostat Freelander td4 | MijnAlbum - Fotoalbum Gratis Online!

I've just bought one of these.

A quick question if you don't mind...

Looking at your pictures, am I safe in assuming that you've left a stub of the rubber hose attached to the engine and (possibly) cut at an angle or something?

It seems certain that a section of hose needs to be removed to accommodate the in-line thermostat housing.

I fitted this mod on Friday.

As rovermgfan says there is definitely room for it in the top hose.

The thermostat that comes with it is rated at 88ºC which is correct for the engine but I think the distance the in-line mod is from the engine means a lower rated thermostat should be used.

After fitting this the water temperature rose to well above 110ºC before dropping back to 88ºC when the stat opened. I'm thinking that these high temperatures will damage the engine in the long run.
