Hi all, just replaced the Bosch MAF with Pierberg 7.22684.09.0, but the TD4 is now "flat" up to 2,000rpm, then takes off like a Banshee.... I'm not keen on this flat-spot, preferred the instant grunt of the old MAF, have I gone wrong? Do i need to do anything else? Incidentally, I've previously fitted an EGR blanking kit, replaced the air filter for a K&N, and changed the crank oil filter for the BMW type seperator, any advice welcome, thanks....

I may be wrong because I am not familiar with the ref nos you have used but the Pierburg is not in spec for the TD4 it needs a Synergy 2 unit to bring it in then it flies. I have one with a Synergy 2.

More to this than meets the eye methinks.

The Pierburg used with the synergy is nr. 7.22684.07.0

The MAF discussed on this thread with nr. ending 09.0 seems to have been designed for the M47TUD20 and the M47TU2D20 engines which were never fitted to LRs - we got the original M47D20 in R form.

LR never upgraded to the more powerful 1995cc TU or TU2 - perhaps due to BMW selling LR off.

If your MAF housing is stamped with a nr. ending with 314 then a ECU re-programme may do the trick.

However I don't think you'll manage to get better than a Pierburg ...07.0 and a Synergy 2 though.

hi all
new to freelander , just bought a 06 model, looking at changing the maf in mine, as it seems too loose throttle while driving ,

I too have bought the Pierburg 7.22684.09.0 maf and fitted it this morning after trying countless others form both Ebay and auto sensors uk who I use for abs sensors. However this unit does also not work. No power below 2200 rpm and for some reason as soon as i fitted this sensor my DHDC light is now constantly flashing at me. Unplug it and hey presto back to full power again. Very tempted to forget about the maf and leave it unplugged? IS THIS WISE? Now have to ship pierburg maf back to Germany if they'll take it back. Freelander 2001 TD4. Maf Nightmares

I have an odd 'problem' on my TD4, had the common lumpy idle when starting issue that soon clears and the slight misfire at 2000rpm when stationary, and last night having concluded that it may or not be injector related, I turned my attention to the MAF. Unplugged it and went for a quick spin, and it made absolutely FA difference to the car. So, naturally concluded that it is on its way out or has gone altogether and the ECU has reverted to default values.

However, if that were the case would the car not be displaying poor running and MPG symptoms as other people have experienced? MPG seems good, low-down pickup seems fine (especially since I blanked the EGR) and hardly any smoke under normal driving even when booting it.

Confused to say the least. Any thoughts? I may give the contacts a clean first, but i'm just confused why there was little discernible difference in performance when it was unplugged AND if the car isn't displaying any rough running symptoms...

Bought the Pierburg maf from Roverron when I upgraded my synergy a few years ago. Freelander wouldn't run at all when the Pierburg was fitted. I asked Ron who said I must have fitted it the wrong way round. Really, like I couldn't follow the simple instructions. So I decided to humour him and fit it the "wrong" way to prove a point. However it made no difference which bloody way round it was , the engine was all over the place. He then offered to replace it, but maintained that they don't go wrong so it must be me, but send it back for a replacement. I never bothered in the end. Just stuck to my Bosch MAF. But if I disconnect the Synergy, or turn it off the Freelander drives like a slug with no pick up on acceleration like it's towing a double Decker bus.
