Immobilizer issue

51 plate Disco 2, having a nightmare with the immobilizer stopping the car from starting (solid red light on dash) Central locking started playing up a week or so back so put fresh batteries in sorted both keys out job seemed a good one. Problem came back but intermittent sometimes it would unlock and turn the immobilizer off sometimes it wouldn't. One point both keys in the Disco seemed to sort it but after a few days that stopped. Past couple of days hasn't worked at all, it flashes rapidly when I manually lock it back up with the key. Checked the rf reciever it's getting power and no signs of moisture/damage (no sunroof on mine) Put the Eka code in 1st time and it did the job but hasn't worked since?? Is it worth trying a new reciever, could it possibly be the engine battery which to be fair is more than likely 3 years plus old. Any advice or tips greatly appreciated I'm no bright spark when it comes to Electrics!

When you have the solid red light on the dash, what happens when you press the unlock key on the fob?
If it goes out you should be able to start the car provided you do it within 30 seconds or so.
 
The light remains on, only started doing this over the last couple of weeks no issues before. I've left the battery disconnected from last night and gonna connect back up when I finish work see if that works??

Does it do this with both keys?
The reason I ask is that there is something on the circuit board within the fob that is supposed to have a signal interaction with a coil or summat around the ignition key hole. If that doesn't work then it stops the key being allowed to start the car. This happens on mine cos the key that starts the car has no CB inside the fob and the fob with the CB although on the same ring, is too far away to work. But pushing the unlock button on the fob allows the red light to go out and the key to start the engine.
In your case I think it is something more serious than this. It is unlikely that both keys would have the same fault on the CB. So it is either the coil thing on the ignition switch OR, more likely, something else to do with the immobilizer.
I cannot lock my car with the fob as if I do the alarm sounds within seconds of the car locking. By locking it with the key I circumvent this issue. Something to do with the RF receiver. We often park it with dogs in so this isn't a problem to us.

Yes both keys like you say unlikely to be both keys that pack up at the same time.

Depends what you think it's a small fortune but if the BCU is the problem programming with dedicated diagnostic tool and the "know-how" is needed or send it to a repair shop , disregard that price, you'll have to call them for a real one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133115857675
 
Had a look online and a company called Turners do a reprogram for 120 or a new BCU new Eka for 280. Not as bad as I thought, looking like the route I need to take
