My name is Aaron, I'm 41 and just signed up, I grew up on a beautiful 1969 2.25L petrol Land Rover Series 2a. My father who was an entomologist in the 70s decided to explore the Sahara starting from Turin and passing through Morocco in search of North African insects and arachnids to study, so he went to a dealer of off-road vehicles only and to explain his need. you heard the answer "do you see all these off-road vehicles? you can choose the one you want, but I tell you honestly, AN OFFROAD MUST STILL BE BORN TO BEAT THE LAND ROVER IN AFRICA" it was 1970 and the seller personally went to pick it up in England . From that moment on, my father immediately went to work, I arrived with the canvas and going to Switzerland bought him the double roof cabin, then he thought "if the engine stops in the Sahara, I'm dead" and away ... . he filled it with tools that now look like a B17 plane, then roof racks, sun visors (from Santana) etc. After Africa he reorganized and left for another trip to Iran. Then after these trips, he always went to work by bus and apart from a few rides in the mountains with us as children, he never used it anymore. Now it is almost in place after a year and a half of work done by me.

Thanks to all, I only have two photos of my father's travels, but the good news is that he made all the films of his travels and I'm uploading them these days ....

thank you guys for your warm welcome, I'm glad you like the story, even my wife who always said "throw that junk" every time I went to work on it in the garage, after she saw the movies she said "you can't sell it with a story so behind ".

This is the first film, it is a bit dark but it is right to start from the first trip, for the second which for me is the best I think I will do a separate thread.

Good vision.

PART 1

PART 2 (END)

Welcome Aboard :)

Love your IIA - and the dash instrumentation is amazing.

Thanks for sharing the photo's and video's too :):)

the first frame is a map of which I am very fond of because it accompanied me throughout my childhood, as you can see in the second one, my father was a pipe smoker, in fact even now in the dash board there is his pipe holder if you notice.

thank you very much, it means so much, I didn't want all this to remain closed in a closet and over time there would be no trace, I knew that here you would have appreciated the story.

Perhaps you should print the stories of his travels, and your own memories , supported by the photos? I am sure there would be a market.

I only have the collection of insects and arachnids cataloged in the box showcases ....
in the last photo you can see the complete spotlights, he added many things in subsequent trips, I intend to put them all back on, to think that he took them off to make the vehicle inspection which was never done, the police in the following years told him to remove the additional headlights. Now I can validate them after having them do the first inspection of his life last year. The problem is that of the two fog lights (which can already be seen on the first trip) one seems to have been lost!
