I have searched this question but found no definate answer, just about 6 or 7 guesses. When starting my 110 V8, the engine fires after releasing the ignition key instead of whilst the engine is being cranked. I know that this is due to a rather stupid AA technician mixing up the wiring on the back of the ignition swith after accidentall pulling several wires off of the switch whilst investigating something else. It has been like this for a few months now, and would not bother me except that I have my MOT on tuesday, so want everything working properly. So does anyone know the wiring order for a 7 connector ignition switch on a V8 Defender.

Another gues sorry But if you have a ballist wire from your starter its not working
There is nothing wrong with the wiring other than it is not on the switch in the correct order. Failing this, can anyone give me some clue as to what colour wire going into the switch does what? I will try and work it out myself.

The wires I have are
Brown (thick wire)
White ( thick wire)
White & Red (thin wire)
White (thin wire)
Brown & Orange (thin wire)

Ok, figured out that brown & thick white are live in and out of switch. Thin red & white triggers the starter, but I don't know which terminal to connect this to. Thin white & thin brown & orange are still a mystery.

All solid brown wires are unfused battery live (I.e. directly connected to the battery).

All solid white wires are unfused switched live (I.e. the output of the ign switch. When the switch is turned to position 2 or crank, it connects the input brown wire to the output white wire).

The white with red trace is the exciter wire, which drives your starter relay. (I.e. when your switch is in the crank position only, it connects your input brown wire to the white with red trace wire)

The white with orange trace is the accessory wire. When your switch is in position 1 or 2 it connects the input brown wire to the white with orange trace wire). It's common on many vehicles though that this wire is off when cranking. From memory, I'm not sure if this is on or off during crank on a landy though. You'd have to buzz it out to be sure.
