ign switch

hello lads anyone help wired ign to a push button one wire to a 12v supply one to pos side of bulkhead solenoid no joy , didnt want to go near ign switch as u/s as far as starting is concerned hence button ,car has a ammeter fitted so wires that were on solenoid now supply ammeter with info she s been a1 up until yesterday any ideas would be appreciated , is it poss to wire starter direct to a switch all i want is it to turn over

Are you connecting to the positive stud terminal or the spade terminal? If it's the spade terminal and the solenoid isn't clicking try removing the solenoid and cleaning it up 'cos the earth goes through the body of the solenoid. If that don't work try holding the solenoid body to the battery earth terminal and a connecting the spade terminal to live. If it still won't click then it's buggered.

thanks for reply i connected to solenoid pos stud not spade terminal , i never suspected solenoid was faulty each time she started the point on the key when engine turned over was getting further away each time , should i have connected to spade not stud terminal thanks dave
