.......what do you do?
Wanted to replace the thermostat with new on the 90 this a.m. to see if it would help me get a bit more heat from the so called heating system.
Top nut ok and loosened off straight away no drama. Bottom one, I could see was discoloured, and started to round off, no grip at all. Stopped after two goes, (to avoid a perfect circle forming:eek:), but................. what do I do now?

You need to be aware though, if the nut is properly seized these irwins will round your nut off COMPLETEY. I've got a seized nut on my brake calipers and the irwin set has rounded it off totally. My problem is that I cannot get anything else onto it. Hope you have better luck!!

Sounds like you'll need some of these then...

What are they called, lerk?
Mind you access may be an issue as its the bottom bolt under the bend of the thermostat housing. Socket seemed to be the only way in

Nope, it's no good. Looks like a nut is going to get welded on. Bollocks! This is my first Landy, and I've replaced quite alot of kit now and this is the first nut that has come close to defeating me. I really hope the the one is ok.....

Never experienced that before.... a gentle tap with a hammer fits the irwin onto the rounded article - then as you undo it screws itself deeper onto the nut/bolt. I've never had one round off before unless I had the wrong size on. Got both sets?

Next best for rounded items is the good ol stilson if you can get access. Awesome tool for gripping non-grippy stuff!

I have a set of the Irwins, best tools in the tool chest for removing rusted bolts/nuts from a 93 NAS D110 that saw some salt water. Like the other poster, I usually tap the Irwin "socket" with a hammer to make sure it is seated on the bolt/nut. I have even used the smaller one to remove rusted interior fitting screws.

Yup, did that, selected the correct size, then walloped it on with a 4lb limp hammer. Once seated I almost had to jump up and down on it to move it. Then all it did was take a slightly rounded bolt and turn it completely round. Stage 2 involved using the size down and really hammering the bugger. Still no luck. Stage 3 will be to weld a nut onto the end and try that. If that fails stage 4 will be some VERY careful surgery with an angle grinder and some cutting discs. If that doesn't work a mate works for BLI, and he might be able to get some explosives!! Fingers crossed guys!!
