Hey guys,I'm going on holiday with some friends (about 8 of us) and I wanted to cook tea for the first night away, so I was wondering if I could cook anything/re heat thing enroute, I know waiting till I'm there is easier but where's the fun in that.... I've had a few ideas on how to do it and wondered if anyone could point me in a direction....

Idea1. Find some parts (probally in engine bay) that get hot, wrap food in tin foil and hopefully cook it.

Idea2. Get some kind of inverter and use a slow cooker in the back ( I have a 110 station wagon) and this seems like it could be a better and safer idea, only thing is how to get the power to the back ? (I have a socket for a trailer lights, there must be a permanent 12v on there?) or would I be better running wires from the battery to the back ?

Any ideas and thoughts appriceated :) also sorry if this has been covered, i had a quick look and nothing seemed to match what I want
 
I cooked a tin of soup on the exhaust manifold of this loco once.

Get a cast iron dutch pot, fill it with chicken, potato, veg, herbs and spices and put it on a 12v hot plate to slow cook on the way.

Another option is to route water from cooling system in to some sort of heat exchanger. Loads of options
 
I have a 12v urn in the back of mine for making tea, a twin burner gas hob and a toolbox grill for cooking on. As long as the toolbox grill is away from anything flammable and secured down I see no reason it cannot be transported while hot and with some foil wrapped jacket spuds cooking.

Your insurance company may not be too happy about it though but the legs on the grill prevent whatever is under it getting hot.
 
The non powered solution is a haybox
This way you bring a stew to the boil in a big pan, then put it in a box and pack all around with hay (or any insulator) close the lid.. Done.

Sausages wrapped in foil and secured onto the engine.

If you are going to nick power from some where be careful about blowing fuses.
